The Midlothian Primary Schools Basketball Festival is a fun participation event organised by Active Schools Midlothian and supported by basketballscotland who provide the referees for the event. The festival is for P6-7 pupils and all primary schools in Midlothian are invited to attend.  Most schools attending have Basketball running in their school – usually as an afterschool club.

The latest Festival ran on Thursday 12th November at Danderhall Leisure Centre and we had over 150 pupils participating.  There were two leagues running at the same time, with 15 teams taking part altogether.    It was a fantastic morning with lots of high energy games and many baskets getting scored!

During the Festival the referees talent spot those players showing great skill and sportsmanship, and they are awarded medals for their efforts.

The following primary schools attended:

Burnbrae, Danderhall, Loanhead, Mauricewood, Mayfield, Newtongrange, Paradykes, Roswell, Sacred Heart, St Mary’s, St Matthew’s, and Woodburn.

The main focus of the Festival is to give pupils as many games of Basketball as possible – and to enjoy themselves!  However we do keep scores, and the top two teams in each league were as follows:

League 1         Mauricewood

League 2         Roswell

The next Midlothian Festival will be in March 2016.
