James Sloggie joined Midlothian Council in November 2012.
Having played the game at representative level in the Borders and for his home town Peebles, he decided to take up coaching with an emphasis on sports development following a back injury.
The rugby fanatic brings a wealth of sports development experience, after working in sports development for nearly 9 years.
Speaking about his post, James said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to get out into Midlothian and promote rugby as a great sport to all age groups. It's an exciting job and my aim is to provide not only as many local opportunities to play but also for coaches to develop and practice their skills. These aims will benefit club players by supplementing the skills they are already learning within their clubs.”
James and his team work closely with the schools and clubs to build a solid structure at grass roots level. Since coming on board James has developed successful S1/2 and under 16 leagues as well 6 separate primary school competitions at P6/7 and P4/5, a Midlothian u15 girls team and secondary school 7’s at S1/2, U16 and U18.
James is the current Scotland Women under 20 team manager. He has also head coached Scotland Women u18 as well as head coaching on, and then Managing Scottish Rugby’s National Development League.
