Active Girls Day 2017

Lasswade High School Girls enjoy a day of dance and perform amazing flash mob!

Active Girls Flash Mob

Lasswade High School celebrated Active Girls Day on Thurs 5th and Fri 6th October by putting on a spectacular flash mob performance in the Atrium at break time!  In collaboration with Miss McKay (Lasswade PE), Judith Clyne (Active Schools) and KIC Dance Company, Girls from Lasswade HS were offered the chance to take part in a brand new Active Girls Event for 2017.

Active Girls Day is a sport Scotland yearly event aiming to get girls involved in physical activity, boost girl’s confidence and encourage more girls to get involved in extra-curricular sports and events.

This year girls were offered the chance to learn an amazing dance routine based around a mash-up of musical legends. This dance, choreographed by the team at KIC Dance was taught to girls throughout the day on Thurs 5th October ready for the big performance on Friday break time.

Over 170 girls took to Lasswade HS Atrium as pupils flooded in at break time. The girls, including pupils from S1-3, Dance Leaders from S4-6, school staff and volunteers, surprised students with an outstanding flash mob dance performance.

This event proved a massive success involving approximately 200 pupils across the year groups. All the girls had an amazing experience with this new and unique Active Girls Event.  Girls now have the opportunity to join many different extra-curricular clubs within the school including dance clubs.  They also have opportunities to study dance and take on leadership courses.  Not only can they be involved in activity and dance inside of school, but there are opportunities to get involved in events and shows by joining the school sport council.

Active Schools hope to see and increase in Girls involvement in dance, physical activity and events throughout the school year, and hope that this event has increased girl’s confidence, encourages girls to get involved and embrace these kinds of opportunities in the future.

Massive well done to all involved!
